The Space Systems Test Engineer (SSTE) will collaborate with a team of software and hardware engineers in the complete development life cycle of a spacecraft instrument test program (SITP). The SITP will include the development of component and subsystem prototype test plans and procedures, the design and fabrication of subsystem test beds for performance and design verification, the design and fabrication of production manufacturing test systems for fabrication validation, and the development of a full instrument test bed to qualify the spacecraft instrument for space flight. The full instrument test bed will also be used as part of a larger test and integration environment that will support spacecraft level testing activities, including mission simulation.

The SSTE will be responsible for generating test plans and procedures according to accepted industry standards and practices. Design responsibilities include any required custom board and system design for test equipment when necessary. The SSTE will be responsible for managing budget and schedule, and directing fellow engineers in the production of SSTE hardware and software.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have strong leadership and organizational skills and demonstrate a capability to synthesize detailed requirements from high level system performance goals.

• Interface with project technical leads to determine high level test requirements.

• Develop test methods and procedures for a series of design prototype spins at the board and subsystem level.

• Develop test hardware and software to support prototype spins.
Work with project software leads to define device-under-test software test loads.

• Design and develop automated test equipment to support subsystem test and integration. Specific subsystems include analog, RF, digital, optical and antenna and power technologies.

• Develop the data acquisition, storage, archival and retrieval lifecycle.

• Interface with production manufacturing leads to incorporate portions of the

• SITP hardware and software into a high volume production environment.
Interact with mission planning leads to develop detailed simulation requirements.

• Develop any required custom test hardware and software in the support of component radiation testing.

• Support environmental testing.

• Perform the role of test conductor through spacecraft integration and test.

• Required to work in clean rooms and be available for occasional travel to support integration and test activities.


• Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Math, or a related discipline.

• 8+ years of experience with spacecraft or spacecraft ground support systems.
