Machine Learning and Optimization Design Engineer, Senior

As a machine learning and optimization design engineer on our team, you have the chance to shape the development of next generation energy technologies that increase efficiency or reduce emissions by leading the conceptualization and management of government R&D programs and evaluation of novel technology concepts. On our team, you’ll be able to broaden your skillset into a wide variety of areas, ranging from design of highly complex systems, including power plants, advanced nuclear reactors, and aviation systems to more fundamental ones, including new material compositions and catalysts. You Have:

-5+ years of experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or program plans for technical and non-technical audiences on research related to machine learning-based design optimization or generative design of engineering systems

-2+ years of experience in relevant postdoctoral, academic, or industry roles related to design optimization of engineering systems

-Experience with developing machine-learning, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, or transfer learning and robust optimization techniques with application to physical systems

-Experience with physics-based simulation, including both high-fidelity and reduced-order modeling and simulation

-Ability to obtain a security clearance

-PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering

Nice If You Have:

-Experience in a consulting environment a plus

-Experience with design of energy technologies or systems a plus

-Experience with analysis and optimization of highly complex systems, including power plants, reactors, microgrids, and aviation systems a plus

-Experience with incorporating real-world constraints, including manufacturing limits into design optimization a plus

-Experience with the development or application of artificial intelligence or autonomous systems

-Experience with real-world engineering, including topics, such as design, implementation, validation and field experimentation of systems a plus

-Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

-Ability to exhibit flexibility, adaptability, and work in a collaborative team environment

-Ability to be a proactive problem-solver and work independently

-Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively

-Ability to travel for technical discussions about a variety of applied controls technologies

-Possession of excellent client service, organizational, and time management skills

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills
