As the lead U.S. foreign affairs agency, the U.S. Department of State represents the United States at more than 270 diplomatic locations around the world, including embassies, consulates, and missions to international organizations.
The Bureau of Information Resource Management (IRM) employs Foreign Service, Civil Service, and locally-employed information technology specialists who serve on the front lines of U.S. diplomacy. They are “the first in and the last out.” Working in more than 270 U.S. embassies, consulates, and missions around the globe, these dedicated individuals operate the Department’s radio, telephone, and computer systems with expansion to support our mobile diplomats coupled with security safeguards at every step of the way.

Foreign and Civil Service IT professionals adapt to changing cultural and physical environments, work with differing levels of technology and infrastructure, follow developments and innovations in the IT field, and successfully apply technology solutions to the business of diplomacy.
